The OpenScore Ensemble

The Openscore Ensemble began its life as Jacob Adler's performance ensemble at Paradise Valley Community College. Students and faculty alike would gather together to play experimental music written by some of the most ambitious composers of our time. These days the Openscore Ensemble has evolved into a rotating collection of Phoenix musicians who are dedicated to playing beautiful, technical, and boundary-pushing music in order to challenge themselves and their audiences.

The Openscore Ensemble, since 2013, specializes in creative arrangements of compositions and improvisations - the ensemble has recorded and performed the works of György Ligeti, Steve Reich, Julius Eastman, Olivier Messiaen, Perotin, Arvo Pärt, and ensemble members. In 2019, the Openscore Ensemble performed Philip Glass' 4-hour opera Einstein on the Beach at the Phoenix Art Museum in collaboration with theater and video artists.
