Their distinct sound caught the attention of Daptone Records Co-founder Gabe Roth, who was in theprocess of starting Penrose Records. Penrose became a subsidiary label to Daptone to highlight theemerging soul-scene growing in Southern California, where The Altons fit perfectly.
