“Lluvia Flamenca” returns for a two-night celebration of Flamenco! This year’s edition will feature: Luz, featuring American flamenco dancer, Mele Martinez (Tucson), choreography by awarding-winning artist, Fanny Ara (St. Jean de Luz), and features the talents of flamenco musicians from around the globe: singer Jose Cortes (Marseille, France), guitarist Andres Vadin (Havana, Cuba), percussionist Diego “El Negro” Alvarez (Caracas, Venezuela), and pianist Gonzalo Grau (Caracas, Venezuela). . In addition, Lluvia Flamenca will feature over 15 local and national artists performing on multiple stages! The event kicks off in a series of intimate performances at the Crescent Ballroom in Phoenix (the home of Tablao Flamenco PHX, recognized as Phoenix’s most energetic flamenco stage), and will conclude in Tucson at the Sea of Glass Center for the Arts where Gypsy sounds and passionate dance will again visit the Old Pueblo.https://www.crescentphx.com/event/1382090/

After five seasons of performances that brought audiences to thunderous acclaim, “Lluvia Flamenca” returns for a one night celebration of Flamenco! In this year’s edition, Lluvia Flamenca will present /ser/, featuring Arizona native and American flamenco dancer, Angelina Ramirez. In addition, Lluvia Flamenca will include over fifteen local and national artists performing on multiple stages. The event kicks off with a pre-show of performances by Youth Flamenco Artists hailing from New Mexico and Arizona. /ser/ will be presented at Crescent Ballroom in Phoenix which is the home of Tablao Flamenco PHX , recognized as Phoenix’s most energetic flamenco stage.
About /ser/: The word /ser/ in Spanish means to be. /ser/ is a flamenco project that will examine what it means to be a queer, latinx flamenca, practicing a traditional gitano (gypsy) form of dance. /ser/ will explore the politics of what it means to be a flamenco artist in the U.S.
The mission of Flamenco Por La Vida is to build an understanding of and an appreciation for Flamenco in Arizona by presenting festivals and professional flamenco performances, engaging diverse communities and offering classes to students of all ages, races and economic backgrounds.
