Of the Painted Choir bring their infection brand of nostalgic rock to the valley of the sun. A new branch from the Tugboat tree, OTPC is guaranteed to provide the same sort of addictive fruit from whence their branches grew. Their debut EP "Lula," only a month old, has contributed well to our music community and makes the Sonoran desert feel and sound lush.
RUSSIAN ARMS AND OPTICS
With only a handful of songs and a million ideas, Liz, John and Mike wanted to start playing music together again after their last efforts were cut short. Forming in late 2009, they asked some good friends of theirs who they shared the stage with in the past to complete the line up.
The group is now known as Russian Arms and Optics; Liz on vocals, Mike on organ/synth, John on bass, Phil on synth, Robby on drums and Felix on guitar.
They recorded and released a four-song demo within the first few months of being together. With only 100 pressings, and limited internet exposure, the demo songs caught the attention of promoters nationwide, and JMD Records. After inking a distribution deal with JMD/INgroove/Universal, the band has gone back into the studio to record their debut EP release, "So Close yet so Foreign".
Creating upbeat indie rock with a mix of dance and pop sensibility, the group creates heavy hooks that will get stuck in your head long after your first listen. Pulling influences everywhere from Karen Carpenter to Karen O., Russian Arms and Optics mixes indie/dance/pop with organ and synth sounds hanging in the backgrounds.
To catch their live show is to experience an energy and love for music that you won't find many other places.
