MALA RODRIGUEZ

Latin Grammy and MTV Latin America Award-winning Mala Rodriguez had a breakthrough 2010. In addition to launching her highly-anticipated fourth album on Universal, “Dirty Bailarina”, Mala Rodriguez won “Best Urban Song” for her single “No Pidas Perdon” at the 2010 Latin Grammy Awards. Spain´s unrivaled urban music queen also travelled to Bogota, Colombia, to inaugurate the 1st Annual Nem-Catacoa Festival with international superstars Green Day and Jamiroquai, and shared the stage with Alejandro Sanz for his single “Mala” in key cities of his tour “Gira Paraiso.” Previously that year, in addition to being featured on tracks with Diego Torres, Cabas and Kinky, Nelly Furtado invited Mala Rodriguez to collaborate on her single and music video “Bajo Otra Luz”, which set a record as the #1 Most Viewed Video Worldwide with 2.7 million views in its first week, and performed the song live with the Jabbawockeez at the 2010 Latin Grammy Awards telecast.
Maria Rodriguez was born in Jerez de la Frontera (Cadiz, Spain), but it was after moving to Seville that she took interest in R&B and hip-hop music, and in 1997 made her first demo tape at 18. Two years later, Maria made her debut as “Mala Rodriguez” and forever changed the face of Spanish rap with her smash “Yo Marco El Minuto” by becoming the first female to gain respect in a male-dominated genre.
In 2000, Mala Rodriguez released her first album “Lujo Iberico”, which was one of the highest-selling albums in Spanish hip-hop history and almost immediately reached Gold RIAA sales, proving that her success with “Yo Marco El Minuto” was no accident – her flamenco-rooted urban sound was here to stay. Mala Rodriguez, now known as La Mala, launched her second album “Alevosía” (2003), which garnered interest overseas and also achieved Gold status. In the next two years, La Mala increased her international presence through collaborations with Akon (United States) and Vico C (Puerto Rico).
Before her watershed 2010, it was “Malamarismo” (2007) that initially transformed La Mala
into a worldwide artist, gaining her audiences all across the Americas, particularly: Mexico,
Central America, Argentina, Chile, Uruguay, Colombia, Venezuela and the United States. This
third album received glowing critical acclaim and several awards and nominations: MTV Latin
America for “Best New Artist”, MTV Europe for “Best Spanish Arist”, Latin Grammy nomination
for “Best Urban Music Album” and La Banda Elastica for “Best Urban Artist”. La Mala was also
featured on tracks released by international Latin acts Calle 13, Gustavo Santoalalla´s Bajo
Fondo, Kumbia All Starz, Tego Calderon and Julieta Venegas, furthering her place abroad.

DJ MELO

DJ Melo is an award-winning DJ, and one of the most in-demand selectors on the latin and Moombahton scenes. He is a veteran of the Phoenix club scene, first at Jackson's on 3rd, where he helped to introduce the Reggaeton sound, then at Karama Nightclub – leading both clubs into the Phoenix Times' 'Best Of' issues. Melo himself was voted Best Latin DJ in its 2008 Thrill City issue.
As a member of the Muzik Junkies Remix Squad, his edits have been played across the country by top DJs, while his skills have also led to him dropping guest radio mixes for both 92.7/99.3 The Beat and Power 98.3 on Phoenix Radio.
Most recently, DJ Melo has made a major impact on the exploding Moombahton scene, and is viewed as one of its innovators - he was the man behind the influential Winter Of Moombahton compilation and was invited to perform at the 2011 SXSW festival, and also among the artists selected for the prestigious 'Blow Your Head - Dave Nada Presents Moombahton' for Diplo's Mad Decent Records.
